Dinajpur Polli Unnayan Prochesta (DPUP) is a non-partisan, independent, non-governmental, and nonprofit national philanthropic organization dedicated to empowering the poorest rural and slum women and children. It provides education, social services, and development support to institutionalize gender equality within the civic power structure, aiming to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women and children. The organization is governed by a constitution adopted by its General Committee and approved by the Department of Social Service and the NGO Affairs Bureau.
Established in 2007, Dinajpur Palli Unnayan Prochesta (DPUP) is a non-governmental voluntary organization focused on socio-economic development. It was founded with the goal of initiating development initiatives for vulnerable communities in Dinajpur district. DPUP emerged from the synergistic efforts of dedicated young social advocates from various academic disciplines.
Currently, DPUP is actively implementing programs that prioritize a rights-based approach, addressing child rights, community-led processes, income-generating activities (IGA), water and sanitation (WatSan), advocacy and networking, civility promotion among tribal communities, disaster preparedness, and social awareness campaigns. It stands out as an NGO with multi-dimensional development initiatives, focusing particularly on marginalized individuals within society. DPUP administers demand-driven and responsive programs for the disadvantaged community of Dinajpur, which includes marginalized farmers, landless and asset-less families, poor women and children, and individuals suffering from the impacts of natural disasters.
DPUP seeks to promote cultural diversity by advocating for human rights, social and economic security, conflict resolution, gender equality, adolescent education, early childhood development, local government services, and self-employment opportunities for women. Its primary mission is to empower socially and economically disadvantaged and vulnerable individuals by enhancing their capacities, enabling them to effectively and sustainably address their challenges. The organization employs rights-based approaches in its programs to improve the social and human conditions of the poor and marginalized, providing support on legal issues such as dowry, divorce, and cultural complexities, particularly for rural underprivileged populations, especially women and children.
